About HxDx

Hello and welcome. This site is the portfolio, blog and online home of me, Paul Clark.

I am a freelance designer, product developer and consultant to manufacturers and integrators of entertainment technology, with skills covering design and integration of hardware, software and digital media; and experienced with lighting and multimedia device control protocols.

Like a lot of things that start small and grow, this site is still in its infancy. Over the coming months, I'll be adding more detail about me, the services I can offer, the projects I am and have been involved in, and other industry news and resources.

And to save you the bother of checking back yourself, subscribe to HxDx in the News Feeds section on the right.

Stardraw's first Certified Programmer
Stardraw Control Certified Programmer

I'm very proud to say that I've recently been appointed as the very first Certified Programmer for Stardraw Control.

As a Certified Programmer, I can offer design and development services to integrators using Stardraw Control who need to leverage more advanced capabilities of Stardraw's .Net language platform. This includes developing custom drivers or extending existing ones.

I first saw Stardraw Control at PLASA 2005 and I was impressed by the mix of current technology and innovative use of the topology design metaphor. This approach resounded with design concepts that I have had for many years, that offer the designer to create their project architecture in a visual medium, and for the resulting diagram to include some "intelligence" about the devices and how to access and control them.

It is an honour to be appointed the very first Certified Programmer. Part of my certification involved development of Stardraw drivers to control the Extron family of video matrix switchers.

I have also developed an add-in called the ScriptHelper, which has now been incorporated within Stardraw Control as a core feature (view the ScriptHelper tutorial).

Check out Stardraw Control for yourself, and read about my Certified Programmer appointment.

Deconstructing d.Construct 2006
d.Construct 2006

I'm a bit late in writing this review, so I hope my memory of the event hasn't faded too much.

I can't recall how I came across d.Construct to begin with, but was pleased to see another technology event being based in Brighton, and was even pleaseder (?) to get in quick and bag a ticket.

Hippotizer gets Pathport
Green Hippo

I've just finished work on a Pathport Protocol driver for the latest version of Green Hippo's award winning Hippotizer media server.

Ethernet-based protocols, such as Pathport and Art-Net, offer superior scalability and flexibility to standard DMX512, whilst supporting full interoperability with DMX and RDM.

See more of the Hippotizer over on Green Hippo's website.

You can also read more about Pathway's Pathport Alliance of supporting manufacturers.

PLASA06
PLASA06

The PLASA trade show for lighting, audio, multimedia and staging comes to 2006.

I'll be walking the floors of Earls Court once again, meeting fascinating and creative people, and trying to keep up with the diversity of products and technologies on show.

I'm also an Associate Individual Member of PLASA: take a look at my membership listing, and learn more about the Professional Lighting and Sound Association.
